Lukaya Tukolere Wamu Farmers’ Cooperative Society (L T W F C S) is a Coffee farmers Co-operative with a membership of 650+ farmers in the district of Kalungu. The vision of LLC is to have a Co-operative of commercial farmers processing and marketing their coffee products to the national and international market by 2040. The Mission of L T W F C S S is to have self-sustained and market oriented coffee farmers with high yields of quality coffee ‘. The business plan builds on the tremendous successes that L T W F C S has achieved in the last years and responding to the market that reward farmers that produce and process coffee following smart agricultural and production practices. Our value proposition is aimed at selling certified coffees (i.e. 4C, Fair-trade and Rain forest Alliance) and practicing organic certificate. For such markets, farmers are rewarded for good agricultural adaptation practices and are able to achieve a 40% increase in price above the main stream coffee and achieve at least 50% reduction in grading costs required to process their coffee when the grading facility is installed. With the installation of the new hauling machine facility at L T W F C S , it will be possible to share with the surrounding community and also provide other social services such as amendment or maintenance of the community road network within the vicinity of the factory.
We train our members on good agricultural practices and post-harvest handling in order to maintain quality and quantity but most specifically to prepare them towards 4C and Fairtrade certificate which is our value proposition. Once we get certified, our coffees will fetch more premium as compared to conventional selling. We are mainly a youth cooperative comprising of mainly women but also encompassing the old farmers in order to learn and compare notes. LUTWAFA
